Singing Again in aid of Cancer Research UK

The Choir held its annual concert in aid of the Malvern branch of Cancer Research UK on Saturday 25 March 2017 at St Edmund’s Hall, Malvern College. During the course of the evening the Chair of the branch reported that funds raised by the branch now exceed £600,000.

The concert was titled Let Me Sing Again – a chorus line from the miners’ song ‘Take me Home’ which kicked off the evening. Some of the MMVC songs featured some fine accompaniment from saxophonist Mandy Harding.

As well as the usual varied dozen numbers sung by the choir, there was also a fine contribution from the Chase School Sixth Form Choir, led by Mrs Sally Livingstone ; they gave us some spirited renditions of songs from the musicals Les Miserables, Chess, and the recent award winning La La Land.

The evening also highlighted the beautiful soprano solo voice of Emma Burrows, assisted in part by our own tenor Graham Purcocks, with works by Mozart and Donizetti; perhaps the highlight of Emma’s singing for some of us came with her fine rendition of Bernstein’s ‘Tonight’ from West Side Story.

The evening was brightened as usual by the provision of plentiful wine and nibbles and the prize raffle draw.

We all look forward to raising more money by singing for Cancer Research again next year.
