Sunday August 28 saw the Choir appear at the Severn Hall, Three Counties Showground, in an evening concert for the Camping & Caravan Club’s annual National Festival of Lanterns, being held this year in our region.
The Hall was packed with about 1700 campers in festive mood, with entertainment
provided also by the Club’s national Brass Band. The theme was Music from the Movies, with hits ranging from Laurel & Hardy to Star Wars, and with audience participation along with the Choir in a medley from The Sound of Music.
Our set list included music from South Pacific, Sweet Charity and Les Miserables, plus mass singing of You’ll Never Walk Alone from Carousel . There were also Beatles and Motown hits from us, and the evening ended with a ‘ Last Night of the Proms’ style flag waving section with the hearty participation of the audience.
At the end of the evening the Choir received a rapturous reception from the campers, along with an enthusiastic endorsement from the Band director, who had clearly thoroughly enjoyed our collaboration.
What a pity that the Festival doesn’t come to our area every year !
